I just got done watching John McCain’s speech to congratulate Barack Obama on being elected the next President of the United States. This election is historical in many ways, and only time will tell what effects our country’s vote will have. Only one outcome was assured tonight: some people are excited and some are disappointed!
What should our response to the election be as Christians? Whatever our political opinions, I would encourage us all to move ahead as Christians who trust in God (Proverbs 3:5-6) and that use God’s Word as our guide (Psalm 119:105):
We must submit to our government as long as it does not impose on our citizenship in the kingdom of God (Philippians 3:20).
We must pray for our leaders, whether we agree with them or not.
We must be different than the world…to God be the glory!
Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. — 1 Peter 2:13-17
