The killer…

Like summer time, Thanksgiving and Christmas can be “continuity killers” for Life Groups.  Schedules are crazier than normal and there is a real desire by some to “take a break” until the new year.  This season can also be one of the richest times of celebration for a Group!  Instead of taking a break for a month or more, here are a few suggestions to try.  I’d love to know if you have any others:

  • Spend one gathering letting people think and talk through all the things they are thankful for.  How are these things different this year than last year?  How has God changed their hearts over the past year?  I would encourage you to have people write this list down, have their kids add to it, and keep it as a spiritual “marker” to look back on when times are difficult.
  • Go Christmas caroling as a group!
  • Plan an outreach activity with the group.  Serve meals to the homeless.  Hand out homemade Christmas (not holiday!) cards to random people at the mall.  Volunteer to be the best greeters ever at Grace Point’s Christmas Eve service!
  • Do a one-or-two week study on the birth of Christ.  Spend some time in the classic passages from Scripture or some of the traditional Christmas songs we have all sung for so long!
  • Have a Christmas party!  Our Life Groups over the years have always done this and it never fails to build stronger bonds.  It is a great time to laugh and eat and celebrate!

How about you?  Any other suggestions?
