It is so hard to pick out a gift for my parents. Why? If they need something, they go by it. They don’t have a list of things they need. When we do buy them something, they appreciate it and thank us, but it isn’t like we just met a huge need in their life.
God is the extreme example of this. He doesn’t need anything. He doesn’t need our worship or our money or our time. He doesn’t need us at all. Psalm 50:9 sums it up nicely when it records God saying “I DO NOT NEED”. Though He doesn’t need us, He does want us. But what does He want us for? What does He want us to do?
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory. Giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God. Psalm 50:14-15, 23 (NLT)
He wants us to offer Him our sincere thanks for all that He has done, is doing and will do. I spent five minutes this morning doing just that: thanking God. What a blessing for my morning, and what a way to honor God!
I’m even thankful for that!
