My last post talked about the importance of telling a new generation about God. Why is that so important? Well there are many reasons, but one of the reasons is that it makes it possible for that generation to avoid (or minimize) some of the cycles that have plagued God’s people from the very beginning.
The human race continues some cycles that keep us far from God. We ignore and disobey God; He disciplines us; We turn back to Him; He forgives us; We live for Him again.
The cycle starts over when our blessed lives make it easy for us to forget about Him, ignoring and disobeying Him…again. This has been the history of His people from the very beginning. Psalm 78 recounts these cycles, and then reminds us:
So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God. Psalm 78:7-8 (NLT)
There is hope for the next generation to not repeat the cycles of the current one. There is a chance for you and I to break out of the cycles to which we have grown accustomed. There is a chance for our children to avoid swirling around in the same cycles that have plagued our lives. To increase the likelihood of that, they have to hear about His glorious miracles and obey His commands.
You and I can play a role in helping the next generation start some new cycles…will we take the time?
