It is officially that time of year. My favorite time of year. The time of year when it is not fashionable to grumble or to complain. A time of year when we are almost compelled to be thankful. Thankful for our families…even if they are broken. Thankful for our friends…even the ones that disappoint us. Thankful for our health…even if it is not perfect. Thankful for the things we have…even if our things aren’t as shiny as everyone else’s.
So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I offer these two verses from 1 Peter. They are a call to live lives that are completely different than the rest of the world. Lives that reflect a great and almost incomprehensible truth…we are heaven bound!
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. - 1 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT)
Peter goes on to describe the wonderful joy we will have when our inheritance is made complete! Please remember that this Thanksgiving. Don’t let this world distract you from the next. Don’t let your current pain blind you to the glory that is to come.
Allow yourself to live with great expectation…and tell someone else how & why you are living like that.
Have a GREAT Thanksgiving!
