Have you ever been around someone that loves to talk about how well they are doing? They might mention a job promotion, how amazing their kids are, how effective they are at home or school or church, or what a great spouse they have been lately. They seem genuinely pleased with their efforts, and don’t have a problem giving themselves a wholehearted ‘well done’ in public.
In Paul’s view, these people’s self-serving remarks don’t count for much:
When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them. 2 Corinthians 10:18 (NLT)
“Well done, my good and faithful servant!” Oh God, I want to live my life to hear those words from You and You alone! Help me to want that more than I want anything else! Help me never to sing my own praises, but only the praises of the One who is deserving!
