Do you want to give a worthy sacrifice to God? Do you want to honor Him? Do you want God to reveal Himself to you? Two words: give thanks!
But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” Psalms 50:23 (NLT)
I don’t usually think of giving thanks as a sacrifice, but it is. Check out this definition from dictionary.com: “the surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim”.
Giving thanks requires me to surrender myself to God. It requires me to submit myself to Him and not focus on what I want Him to do. Instead, it forces me to focus on what He has done. Giving thanks recognizes that He has a higher and more pressing claim on me than I do. Giving thanks is a natural and wonderful replacement for whining, complaining, arguing, envying, boasting and many other self-centered things.
So I did it this morning. For several minutes I thanked Him…plain and simple. And I pray that my thanksgiving was a worthy sacrifice to Him and that He was honored!
