I read Psalm 107 the other day and was absolutely blown away. It is a Psalm written to remind the Israelite people of how God redeemed them from the wilderness. I’m going to summarize it here, but please, please read the whole Psalm…it is awesome!
It starts with a reminder of God’s faithful love, and goes on to challenge the reader to tell other people about how He has redeemed them.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you… Psalms 107:1-2
It then goes on to describe four kinds of people that God redeemed:
- 107:4 – the downtrodden, wandering alone, lost and homeless in a cruel, uncaring world.
- 107:10 – the passively sinful, sitting in darkness and gloom, imprisoned in chains of misery.
- 107:17 – the aggressively sinful, suffering for their sins to the point of death.
- 107:23 – the prodigal sons, scared to death out in the world they intended to conquer.
I think all of us can relate to one or more of these groups…I know I can. God redeemed me from a passively sinful life. I was not shaking my fist at Him, I just wasn’t paying any attention to Him. I had everything I needed (supposedly), but I did not have Him. My life was ‘full’, but my heart was full of darkness and gloom. God redeemed me from that misery for a life that is truly ‘full’ in Him. Thank you Father!
I love the ending of this Psalm. Read it and take it to heart!
The godly will see these things and be glad, while the wicked are struck silent. Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord. Psalms 107:42-43

Prodigal Son – Webster’s defines as –
a person who leaves home and behaves in such a way, but later makes a repentant return home.
Very Telling and Humbling for me this morning. Praise God
